***** WEBSITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION *********NOT FINISHED YET
Hi! Thanks for visiting my website. I'm Rev. Amy Kelly Austin, also known from my YouTube channel as "Amy Now." I'm married to an extraordinarily talented musician named Warren Austin. We share a primary residence with our daughter in the southwestern part of Virginia, but travel often to England to spend time with our two sons in Birmingham.
I've lived in Blacksburg, Virginia off and on since 5th grade, so you could say I'm a "townie, but I've earned degrees from both universities in the New River Valley as well - a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech, and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Radford University. I've also taught numerous Psychology courses at Radford University as an Adjunct Instructor. (Please contact me for my full resume.)
I've worked as a counselor, consultant and educator in the public and private sector since 1999. Currently, I am working as a Personal Consultant, Educator, non-denominational Christian Minister of Faith . (See Services page for details).
Within the capacity of education, I currently offer my services as Guest Speaker or Substitute Instructor of Psychology for local high schools, colleges and universities (see Services page for details).
My areas of teaching experience and general expertise are:
- Social Psychology
- Personality Psychology
- Human Systems Analysis
- Abnormal Psychology
- Psychology of Diversity
- Race Relations
- Effective Relational Communication
- Developmental Psychology
- Child Psychology
- Group Dynamics
I'm also available for hire as a Personal Consultant for ladies of any age. This is similar to a Life Coach, but my training, education, and expertise is specifically in Psychology with a concentration in Counseling (please contact me for a copy of my resume).
It is important to note that I don't operate under a state licensure as a traditional counselor. I am eligible for licensure, but have chosen not to pursue a state license primarily to ensure the freedom to operate as I choose. This includes religious freedom to help others pursue and attain spiritual as well as emotional growth.
While I chose not to be governed by the state, I am determined to uphold the standard ethical code for all mental health professionals, which is: "above all, do no harm."
I come from a Christian point of view, but secular clients need not worry- I'm open to those of you with varying amounts and objects of faith. I won't preach to you, nor will I judge you. My office is a safe space for all types of women.
If you're somebody that needs help figuring things out, or just someone to talk to, I may be able to help. If you need me to help you figure out what kind of help you need, I can do that too. Please see the services page for details.
If you're looking for traditional psychotherapy with a Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), Psychologist (Ph.D.), or Psychiatrist (M.D.), or if you need a provider that takes insurance, please consult the local Community Services Board for a referral: 540-961-8400.
If you're a person facing financial hardship, I accept payment on a sliding scale based on your income. If you currently have no income, I'd be willing to help you connect with community resources that may help.
If you reside elsewhere, I do offer phone and Skype sessions. Please see Services for more details.
